Read his whole post here. However, despite the fact that this is such a pipe dream, it doesnt really help the Yankees' reputation of poaching and buying every good player out there. I can't even say on the market, since the Brewers have Braun signed through 2020. Losing Prince Fielder sucked, despite the fact that if we are honest wit]]> <![CDATA[Marquette basketball uniforms]]> For a rather small school, Marquette has long made waves in the uniform community with some of their outlandish looks. From sporting vertical striping down one side, to a bumble bee look. to camo long before camo was cool,to the powder blues that have periodically surfaced over the years, Marquette is actually usually on the fore-front of uniform changes for a school with a small profile and even smaller revenue. But by far the Marquet]]> <![CDATA[Doug Melvin to be inducted into Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame]]> Brewers GM Doug Melvin was named today as one this year's class to be inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. The other memebers of the class are Rusty Staub, Rheal Cornier and the 2011 Team Canada Senior National Team. The ceremony will take place June 23, 2012. Here's the bio they provided for Melvin: Doug Melvin, born August 8, 1952, is Chatham, Ontario’s second most famous baseball man, behind Hall-of-Famer Fergie Jenkins. Th]]> <![CDATA[Big Ten Hockey looking at neutral site for tournament]]> The Big Ten Hockey Conference hasn't stated playing yet, but their proposal for conference playoffs had caused quite a few ripples in the Wisconsin sports landscape. The Badgers' current conference, the WCHA, holds their conference playoff, the Final Five is always played at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Badgers have never before had to worry about needing to use the Kohl Center during that weekend. With the proposal from the]]> <![CDATA[Badger women's hockey featured on NYT website]]> The New York Times Slap Shot hockey page has recently featured articles on Gordie Howe and NHL realignment. They also featured the Badger women's hockey team. College hockey doesn't get too much national press. Women's college hockey gets even less. So for the NYT to talk about the accomplishments of the Badger women's hockey team and the records they keep breaking with Fill the Bowl - that's really quite an accomplishment. The article also high]]> <![CDATA[Nyjer Morgan skates with San Jose Sharks]]> This picture makes me so happy and it's the one I hoped for when it was announced that former hockey player Nyjer Morgan was going to spend some time skating with the San Jose Sharks. Former Badgers and Stevens Point native Joe Pavelski is a Shark. Here the Wisco worlds collide. The rest of the pictures aren't as fun for me, but there is a full gallery here: http://www.mlb.com/photos/gallery.jsp?content_id=26544274&c_id=mlb There ]]> <![CDATA[Holy Crap, Corey Patterson's back]]> Former Cub (among many other teams) Corey Patterson, who had a brief stint in Milwaukee in 2009, is apparently back with the Brewers - this time signing a minor-league contract. In 2009, Patterson played 11 games and got just 15 plate appearances. So far the contract doesn't include a Spring Training invite. Patterson on the team was something of a joke in 2009, so its probably bordering on comical at this point. Despite the fact that no one expe]]> <![CDATA[Brewers unveil first two 2012 bobbleheads]]> If you're on Twitter and you're like me and love collecting bobbleheads, you'll want to be folliwng Bernie Brewer (@Bernie_Brewer) this week. Every afternoon he's announcing who this season's bobbleheads will be. Yesterday it was announced that the first All-Fan Giveway is 4/22 against Colorado and will be a Jonathan Lucroy bobblehead. Today Bernie let us know that the next bobblehead will be of Yovani Gallardo and it will be given away on 5/13 a]]> <![CDATA[Brewers introduce special "peanut controlled" sections]]> Apparently a young fan wrote to the Brewers and lamented to them that he could never come see the team play at Miller Park because of his extreme allergy to peanuts. So the Brewers have decided to offer a few games with "peanut controlled" seating to accomdate this young fan and others like him. The release doesn't give much information on how the control will be implemented, since it will only be in a couple of sections in the Club level. The Br]]> <![CDATA[Badger women's hockey break NCAA attendance record...again]]> The last three NCAA attendance records have been set by Wisconsin Women's Hockey. They set it at the Camp Randall outdoor game in 2010 with 8,263 in attendance. They set it again at least year's fill the bowl with 10,668. And they broke their own record once again Saturday night as 12,402 people paid to see them beat Bemidji State 1-0. Those numbers are astounding when you realize that the Badgers lead all of NCAA women's hockey with an average a]]> <![CDATA[Wave's Tozer first to 700 wins]]> Wave head coach Keith Tozer was already the winningest coach in indoor soccer history, but on Sunday he reached another milestone as he became the first North American coach to ever reach 700 victories. There's a sad lack of information about the win and Tozer's milestone. I know it's indoor soccer, but this is still a pretty big damn deal. The apparent wire story on the game mentions that the Wave were honoring 3 former players at this game, but]]> <![CDATA[Report: Fielder to Detroit]]> Prince Fielder has made the surprising move of agreeing to terms with a team his dad played for - the Detroit Tigers. The deal is reportedly for 9 years and $214 million. The Tigers are a surprising suitor since they have Miguel Cabrera at first base. They've already said that Prince will play first, so Miggy is moving. The Brewers will get a compensation pick for losing FA Fielder - the Tigers' 1st round pick, 27th overall. The Brewers already h]]> <![CDATA[Former Wisconsin AD Chadima accused of touching male subordinate]]> Former University of Wisconsin Athletic Director John Chadima resigned in January after being put on administrative leave following what was termed "embarrassing actions" at a party involved with the football team's trip to the Rose Bowl over New Year's. However, the details of the situation remained private until now. Apparently Chadima got drunk and grabbed the genitals of a male subordinate. The victim is apparently reluctant to follow up on t]]> <![CDATA[Brewers avoid arbitration with K-Rod, Morgan, Loe]]> Doug Melvin scored a bit of a coup today when it was announced that the Brewers avoided an arbitration hearing with Francisco Rodriguez - K-Rod. He was an odd case because he wasn't in his arbitration-eligible in terms of his years of service - he had accepted arbitration from the Brewers. As K-Rod had earned $11.5 million last season, it was assumed he'd make somewhere in the area of $13 million dollars this season. Instead, by some sort of mira]]> <![CDATA[Craig Counsell retires, joins Brewers front office]]> After a career that spanned parts of 16 major league seasons, Craig Counsell hung up his spikes and was announced as the newest member of the Brewers front office. Counsell now carries the title Special Assistant to the GM. Both he and Doug Melvin insist that this will not be a ceremonial position for Counsell, who said he hopes this is the start of his grooming to one day be a GM. For a skinny kid from Whitefish Bay, Counsell's done rather well ]]> <![CDATA[Brewers sign Japanese import Aoki to two-year deal]]> After posting a $2.5 million fee to his Japanese club, the Brewers then had the ability to sign a contract to bring the three-time Japanese batting champion to Milwaukee. A Japanese source tweeted that the contract for Aoki is about $1.5 million per year, which is probably a steal. From Adam McCalvy on Brewers.com: "Aoki, 30 and a left-handed hitter, has played his entire professional career with Yakult. According to statistics provided by the B]]> <![CDATA[Marquette's Jae Crowder has quite the story]]> In a time when it seems every time you turn on a sporting event you get a drama-filled story instead, I'm a little surprised I haven't heard more about the path Jae Crowder has taken to Marquette before. Blog Ballin' is a Habit recently profiled Crowder and paints a pretty bleak picture of the extremely difficult path he took to Division 1 basketball. Crowder enrolled in a junior college with hopes of landing himself a scholarship to a D1 school,]]> <![CDATA[Wisconsin hockey vs Minnesota in an outdoor game at Soldier Field?]]> Ealier this evening Andy Baggot, the Badger hockey beat writer for the Wisconsin State Journal/Madison.com tweeted that an outdoor hockey game between the Wisconsin Badgers and the Minnesota Gophers at Soldier Field in Chicago was a possiblity being discussed. Baggot came back later in the evening with a column about the topic that says the game would be scheduled for February 16, 2013 and that it would be a double-header, featuring the UW-UM gam]]> <![CDATA[Brewers avoid arbitration with Kottaras, Gomez, Parra]]> Three of the Brewers eight arbitration eligible players have recently signed one-year contracts. George Kottaras signed in mid-December. The terms of the contract have not become available. He will likely be the back-up catcher behind Jonathan Lucroy again this season. Kottaras, 28, batted .252 with five homers and six doubles in 49 games last season. He also hit for the cycle in 2011. Carlos Gomez's one-year will earn him in the neighborhood of ]]> <![CDATA[Brewers claim Bianchi, sign McClung, Phillips to minor league deals]]> The Brewers claimed 25-year-old infielder Jeff Bianchi off waivers from the Cubs this week. Bianchi was only Cubs property for a month, as they had claimed him from waivers from the Royals. KC drafted him in 2005. He's spent the last six years in the minors, hitting .281 with a .335 OBP. He's an infielder and will likely be fighting for the spot of a bench player who would give the Brewers depth for their fairly thin infiled corps. If there were ]]>
