Good Life, The

The menu at these sleek restaurant explores the Caribbean islands, evoking touches of Cuba, Jamaica and Trinidad, spanning the British Caribbean to the Spanish. Naturally there are tropical concoctions like a guava mimosa and a mango daiquiri. The Red Stripe chicken ($10), half-a-chicken bathed in a beer butter sauce, allows for succulent and tender meat. Drunken shrimp ($11) has a wisp of breading, the shelled crustaceans swimming in a tequila and tomato sauce. The spiciest entre is the curried tofu ($9). This is an excellent curry, the spices making a fine pairing for the unconventional tofu, which is accompanied by chopped red pepper and raisins. In an era of stuffy and pompous lounges, more restaurants should be as lighthearted as this.
