The original Cafe LuLu is a room with a long
counter and a place to order carryout. Three years ago LuLu expanded
into the property next door, adding a separate entrance framed by a red
neon sign. This is where the bar and the action is. LuLu
offers a limited list of appetizers, salads and sandwiches. There are
no entrees, but the menu delivers quality and good value throughout. In
addition to the printed menu, weekly specials are listed on
chalkboards. LuLu manages to satisfy both meat lovers
and vegetarians. For carnivores, a Black Angus burger topped with
Gorgonzola cheese-aptly dubbed the "Half-Pound Heart Attack"-cries out
for consumption. On the flip side, what could be more vegetarian than a
roasted vegetable salad ($8.50)? The veggies are served over leaf
lettuce in red wine vinaigrette, with bits of creamy goat cheese. The
vegetables arrive slightly warm, with sweet red onions, firm carrots
and summer squashes that benefit from the grill's char.
