Crazy Water

By Justin Krol
298 Tucked away on the corner where 2nd Street meets Mineral lies one of Milwaukee's most charming dining experiences. Though it is one of the most popular restaurants in the Walker’s Point neighborhood, Crazy Water manages to maintain the “best kept secret” feel, courtesy of the small dining area, friendly wait staff and even friendlier cook staff – all of whom just happen to be in the same room. Start off the night with one of the seven delicious appetizer options, ranging from a three cheese tartlet (a house specialty) to the very complex and flavorful seared scallop plate. The wine list is extensive and generally pricey, but people with shallower pockets should have no problem ordering a $6 glass of “house” Merlot or Chardonnay. Entrees are predominantly seafood and the portions are plentiful and assembled with creativity. The Lemon-Parsley Crusted Halibut is fantastic, but if your mood is more turf than surf, there are spectacular beef, chicken and lamb options, like the Mushroom Dusted Grilled Ribeye and Coriander Crusted Lamb Tenderloin. Anyone looking to win points with that special someone or seeking out that perfect first-date location should keep Crazy Water high on their list, but be forewarned; spending less than $65 seems highly unlikely for a party of two.
