Although Kegel's was established in 1924 during the heart of Prohibition, its setting has always been made for drinking beer. There is plenty of oak woodwork, stained glass and murals of German hunting scenes. The menu is not all German, however you may even find a crusted tilapia filet with chipotle and lime. But standards such as sauerbraten, Wiener schnitzel and beef rouladen still appeal to the regulars. The Friday fish fry offers bluegill and lake perch. The moderate prices remain true to the West Allis locale and the setting is a Germanic classic.
