For Immediate Release 6th Annual Summer of Peace Youth Rally & Peace Summit (Milwaukee, WI, July 29, 2008) Youth Leadership Circle announces highly anticipated (and much needed) 6th Annual Summer of Peace City Wide Youth Rally & Peace Summit, Friday, August 08, 2008 from 9am-3pm A youth led initiative for community unity, positive edutainment, and non-violence (Located at Kilbourn-Kadish Park 900 Blks of East North Ave) Each year Milwaukee's youth gather to deliver their powerful pleas for peace and community unity through dynamic dance, music, peace art exhibits and most importantly conversation. The Summer of Peace Initiative presents a collaborative and colorful day full of anti-violence information & resources from over 25 area organizations. The day is an opportunity for youth and young adults to show the community their positive contributions and genuine commitment toward peace. For over six years, Co-founder/Director Tanya Cromartie-Twaddle and Co-Founder/coordinator Fidel Verdin have been a humble duo, engaging thousands of Milwaukee's hardened youth in creative anti-violence programs. Organized as a grassroots effort to promote peace principles and provide an outlet for creative expression, the event is now so much more than a rally. This historic day challenges residents, the business community, educators and policymakers to support new, youth-led efforts for peace and safety in our city. The Summer of Peace received a proclamation from the mayor's desk last year for outstanding service to the city of Milwaukee. Special highlights include: 9am Peace Summit, Milwaukee Public Theatre's Parade into the Park @ 11am, Milwaukee Peacemaker Recognition Ceremony, and the SOP "Stop the Violence" Youth Performance Showcase, Children's Play Area w/ carnival games, face painting, super slide and more, Free food & giveaways for pre-registered groups. Join us as Summer of Peace teens and young adult leaders gather with community leaders, policymakers and concerned residents to openly discuss and explore new solutions to undoing the grip of violence & poverty has on our city. The summit is open to youth ages 12 and up, community residents and leaders. Youth participants must be pre-registered. Visit us at www.myspace.com/sopmke or email us at summerofpeace@gmail.com
