COMMUNITY GARDEN COLLECTIVE Growing Community Help strengthen the community gardening movement in Milwaukee! MILWAUKEE, WI %u2013 On Thursday, July 17, 2008, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Milwaukee Urban Gardens and the Bay View Garden And Yard Society will host a Community Garden Collective event at Village Roots Garden, located at 1115 East Otjen Street, in Bay View. The Community Garden Collective event series, sponsored by Milwaukee Urban Gardens, is designed is to bring people from different areas of the city together to share resources and build relationships with other gardening enthusiasts. Members of the Bay View Garden and Yard Society warmly welcome Milwaukee residents to Village Roots Garden to learn about the history of the garden space and how it became a flourishing part of the local community. Group members will give a public tour of their garden, address community gardening concerns, and discuss ways to overcome obstacles to support the development of new community gardens. The purpose of the event is to provide gardeners with access to information, as well as to create a stronger network of gardeners working together to strengthen the community gardening movement throughout Milwaukee. Through participative planning, growing food together, and caring for communal property, neighbors increase their social network, as gardens become constant centers of social activity. Preserving community gardens adds economic value to neighborhoods by assisting in the cleanliness, safety, and beautification of those areas, which in turn contributes to a more positive quality of life for Milwaukeeans. Come share your own vision for improving Milwaukee and join us for refreshments, hors dŽoeuvres, and a night of socializing in the garden! This event is free and open to the public.
