Hello! Thank you!

In Section: General Posted By: Roberts

I find myself shopping more and more online these days.  At first, it was because I realized how convenient it was.. but more and more, I'm grateful for the fact that I don't have to be disappointed by less than adequate retail employees.

Still, I find myself visiting the grocery (and liquor) store once every two weeks or so.  Most of the time, I'm not greeted by the cashier, and I honestly cannot remember the last time I was thanked for my purchase.  Heaven forbid I ask for stamps or cigarettes, which would require the cashier to leave their post and mosey on over to the service desk, at their own pace, which is usually pretty lax and involves yip yapping with other employees along the way.  At times, I'm not even given my total after my items have been scanned, but rather, just blankly stared at.

I understand that retail employees have to deal with unpleasant customers, minimum wage, and monotonous work.  Even so, is it too much to ask for a hello, and/or a thank you?  My first two jobs in high school were in retail, where I was taught that customers are the reason we we had jobs, were to be respected, greeted, and thanked for their business.

Thanks for reading!  Good Bye!

Let's not forget the hospitality industry... they're pretty much a lost cause, too.
