...what I heard on the bus today." It's a phrase I find myself saying a great deal. Riding the bus has really become an adventure for me lately, each ride I'm always hearing, seeing, and sometimes smelling something interesting. "Interesting" is a term I use loosely. If you ride the bus, especially the 15, you know what I mean.
The times I don't have my ipod charged and blasting into my eardrums, I listen to what goes on around me. College kids talking about their drunk escapades, people talking on their cell phones, loud high-schoolers, and it's always fun to watch the person sleeping up against the window. There's no way that can be comfortable.
Looking at the Milwaukee County Transit System website I learned that 85% of Milwaukee county residents live within a quarter mile or less from a stop, that the MCTS time record averages 97% annually, and that there 55 routes and 475 buses. The system and how it operates is quite impressive. Something many of us probably take for granted. Not to mention you will probably get a great deal of entertainment for your $2.00 fare.
The latest entertainment I've witnessed was an overly excited women who was clearly drunk on St. Patricks day flirting with the bus driver and saying, "Our stop is coming up, It's right up there" for many, many blocks. I've had a man keep repeating his phone number to me over and over as if I actually wanted it. I've seen someone fall over. I've pretty much seen and smelt it all. I've even heard tales of a man who barked for 32 straight blocks.
Do you ride the bus? Do you have any stories to share?
