Walking

In Section: Kultur Milwaukee Posted By: Stephanie Felchner

Henry David Thoreau was a leader in transcendentalism and exploring the natural beauty that surrounds each of us. After reading Thoreau's "Walking" our class was assigned a project in which we all would simply walk and document our journey in images and later create a story. I took full advantage of the 40-plus degree weather yesterday and took some beautiful shots all from around the lakefront and UWM campus (there is even a surfer in the second photo).

Milwaukee is full of beauty.

There is plenty of ugliness in this town, too, unfortunately.

I'm glad to hear that you appreciate the beauty in Milwaukee too.. many people in town seem to take it for granted (which I guess is understandable, especially this time of year). Will you be doing this again when Spring weather rolls around?
Yes, definitely. This is usually my running route, but it's nice to just walk and take the views.

Reading Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer made me want to read some Thoreau. Milwaukee does have nice parks, but its too cold to enjoy them in winter, I can't wait for summer to come and all the greatness of Milwaukee to show itself once again. Go Brewers.
I have yet to read "Into the Wild" but I just saw the movie, which I thought was excellent.
