It's only about an hour and a half drive from here, but Chicago tends to stir up some animosity for some of my fellow Milwaukee natives. I must admit that sports, although I like to play, I could care less about watching games. Up until a few years ago I thought the yellow line making random appearances during football games was painted on the field (sad but true). My brother and Step-dad have not gotten over this.
However, I do know that there's been some kind of rivalry between the Cubs and Brewers, and the Bears and Packers, correct? But it doesn't end there we also may criticize our neighbors to the south about driving styles and supposed accents.
Personally, I think we're lucky to live in a semi-large city and still be within reach a major U.S. city that allows us to escape for a mini-vacation and a change of scenery.
I found this article: Truth or Dairy? that appered last summer as the cover story in Time Out Chicago, highlighting all the wonderful things about Milwaukee and all of things Chicago natives can look forward doing in Milwaukee. Perhaps this is Chicago's way of trying to bury the hachet. Here's a site I found that highlights all that Chicago has to offer.
Maybe we should call a truce. Both cities are central to the Midwest and perhaps our feuding could simply be chalked up as a type of sibling rivarly. We love to hate each other.
