A heavy snowfall settles on Milwaukee just as the theatre season gets particularly active. Last week one show opened in Waukesha. This week there are half a dozen things going on . . .
FEBRUARY 10th
--ALL’S WELL THAT ENDS WELL
The Boulevard Theatre opens the first Shakespeare show of the month. (There will be three including Carte Blanche and Off The Wall productions.) With a cast featuring promising actress Shannon Nettesheim in the female lead, joined by Chad Laudonio, Karen Ambrosh, Charles Hanel, David Flores and others, this one’s going to be fun.
The show runs through March 4th.
--SCHMITZ ‘N’ BOGAN PRESENTS: TRIVIA/GAME SHOW NIGHT
Comic/Playwright Patrick Schmitz of Meanwhile, Rudolph The Pissed-Off Reinddeer and numerous other projects joins ComedSprtz guy Dave Bogan for a light evening of comedy and competition as they host a game show-style evening of entertainment at The Alchemist Theatre. Randomly-chosen teams compete in evens inspired by everything from Jeopardy to Family Feud. Kind of an odd evening that should be of interest to anyone who likes improv.
FEBRUARY 12th
--THE THREE SISTERS
Windfall Theatre opens its production of Chekhov’s classic. Maureen Kilmurry directs a really good cast including David Ferrie, Liz Mistele, Thomas Rosenthal, Thomas Dillon and more.
Three Sisters runs through February 27th at Village Church Arts on 130 East Juneau.
--CONFESSIONS
All-Woman sketch comedy group Broadminded opens its 2010 season with a program that explores confessions, lies and secrets. It’s yet another show that I really, really hope to make it to this weekend, but with only two performances opening weekend, it could be a challenge. . .
Broadminded’s Confessions runs February 12th through 27th at the Alchemist Theatre.
--THE SEAFARER
The Milwauee Rep opens its production of the contemporary Irish drama. Still working out exactly how I’m going to attend this one with such a busy weekend, but with Jonathan Smoots playing the role he’s playing here, I’m simply going to have to find a way to see this one.
Milwaukee Rep’s The Seafarer runs through March 7th at the Quadracci Powerhouse Theatre.
FEBRUARY 13th
--LOVE LETTERS
Soulstice Theatre presents Mark Flagg and Char Manny in a cozy, little production of A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters in a quaint little boutique hotel in Cudahy Judging from the look of the place on its website, the Sheridan House should be a really nice place to spend some time this Valentine’s Day Weekend.
Soulstice Theatre’s Love Letters runs February 13th and 14th.
