City Life

In Section: Kultur Milwaukee Posted By: Stephanie Felchner

Growing up in the Milwaukee area, and living on the eastside of Milwaukee for the past four years I've come to realize I've been taking this city for granted a bit. Growing up in a suburb right outside of Milwaukee I remember how excited I would be when my parents would take me to Buck's games, resturants downtown and the Milwaukee Public Museum. There always seemed to be so much going on, I loved going downtown night.

Now that I can legally use my own I.D. I'm more concered with finding where I'll be spending my weekends. I joke around that La Fuentes is my second home and Water Street seems to be a weekend staple. I find myself on the same streets I was walking along as a young kid, still excited by all that is going on, the tall buildings that surround me and the atmosphere in general. I think Milwaukee has a lot to offer for anyone, any age.

AARP magazine agrees they named Milwaukee one of the 5 great places to live. To read more on this click here.

What do you like to do in the city?

Do you have any memories of Milwaukee growing up? Let me know.

Stay warm,

Stephanie

I grew up in Deerfield, pretty much the worst place in the world. For fun we used to go cow tipping. In high school, they didn't prepare us to go to college, they prepared us to work on an assembly line or farm. I was lucky, I did well enough to get out of that place and go to UWM. Now I live on the East Side and have a good job as Mechanical Engineer makin' bank at JCI. I love drinking on Water St and Brady St and I always get hammered at Summerfest. There is a ton of exciting things to do in Milwaukee, I can't wait for opening day at Miller Park!!!!! I will never live in a place like Deerfield again, I don't know how I made it out alive!

An early memory I have of Milwaukee is walking with my late grandmother in the downtown area along the Milwaukee River. At that time the Riverwalk was not yet the revitalized sight it is now, but it still held a special place in my heart. From time to time I enjoy strolling along the river, weather permitting, and marvel at how much the area has changed. It is exciting to see the city experiencing such a surge in aesthetic modernity while staying truly loyal to the deep-rooted traditions of the past.
