We're still at war after 5 years in Iraq, not to mention the other places where we have a "military presence" in the world, and I can't help but wonder how much progress we've made as a race in the last 2000 years. I mean, wan't it Buddha who taught compassion, and Jesus who taught us to love our neighbors and turn the other cheek? What happened? Will we ever learn that violence never creates peace? Haven't we learned that violence creates anguish and bitterness? For that matter, what "war" has ever achieved the desired result - the war on drugs or poverty, perhaps? Now Barack Obama has to look "presidential" by proving he's willing to make war. Otherwise we don't trust he can be a strong president. I'm looking for a leader who will show some real courage and strength. I'm looking for what Mother Clare Watts describes: someone who is "courageous in stepping out and doing what needs to be done to bring light, love, peace and consciousness into the the world without it being about his ego". How do you feel about that? Are we safe if we're not ready to kill at a moment's notice?
