Vote for Linda Flashinski in Racine

ENDORSEMENTS 2008

By Shepherd Express Staff

Linda Flashinski would be a welcome alternative to Robin Vos, the Republican incumbent representing the western portion of Racine County, the 63rd Assembly District. Unfortunately for his constituents, Vos is more interested in serving the interests of his party’s leaders than helping Racine workers get to their jobs. Even local businesses—who traditionally support Republicans—are frustrated with Vos’ efforts to kill the Kenosha-Racine-Milwaukee (KRM) commuter rail line.

In contrast, Flashinski, a Democrat, understands that KRM would benefit the region’s workers and employers by stimulating economic development along its corridor. The rail line would produce dividends in a stronger property tax base, an efficient, environmentally friendly commute, and more jobs. In addition, Flashinski, a former board president of the Racine Unified School District, would help to ensure that Wisconsin’s children benefit from well-funded public schools. Flashinski would be a more moderate voice in the Assembly, a representative who would put her constituents first—not her party.

I'm voting for Obama, but I'm not voting for Linda Flashinski. I thought Linda was going to be a fresh voice, but the postcard her campain sent me yesterday really disappointed me. Two sentences in, she said "Like you, I'm a middle class taxpayer". Does she really think everyone she sent this to is middle class? Does she even know what "middle class" means? My husband plows her neighbor's driveway on her block and her neighbor runs Twin Disc. My husband also plows Jim Macilvane's driveway in the same neighborhood and he's a retired NBA player! I know some of the other people in that neighborhood and Linda Flashinski is surrounded by doctors and lawyers. I don't know what Linda Flashinski thinks "middle class" is, but I think it's the people who work at Twin Disc, not the people who run it. I don't think doctors are "middle class" either, but there patients are. I don't know how many real middle class people could afford to live in Linda Flashinski's neighborhood. I don't have a problem with Linda's family being wealthy, but I wish she wouldn't pretend to be someone she's not. I now realize she's just like all the other politicians, telling us whatever they think we want to hear.

I'm voting for Linda Flashinski. You may not like her brochure Shirley, but if you care about people at all, why don't you take a look at Robin Vos' voting record. You can't find hardly a more right-wing member in the State Assembly. Also, the 63rd District is a 62% Republican district so trying to run on the far left would make it almost impossible to win.

So in other words even though you will be to the left on all your votes once elected, pretend to be middle class and middle of the road to get elected. Nice....
