Carrie Underwood

Today @ the Bradley Center - 7:30 p.m.

By Shepherd Express Staff

Arriving after the commercial disappointments of Ruben Studdard and Fantasia—and just before the pop-chart poison that was Taylor Hicks—Carrie Underwood proved that “American Idol” could create a bona fide mega-star, with create being the operative word. In Underwood’s malleable voice and vague, girl-next-door charm, the show’s producers found a blank slate, one they molded into the most old-fashioned of country-music memes: the smiling, troop-supporting, Jesus-worshipping, man-standing-by blonde woman. Drawing obvious inspiration from Shania Twain and Faith Hill’s pop-crossover successes, Underwood’s 2005 debut, Some Hearts, made the Idol a genuine star in the country world, and the singer further cemented her good standing in country circles with her 2007 follow-up, Carnival Ride, another super-sized country-pop chart-topper. Underwood does a 7:30 p.m. concert at the Bradley Center tonight, with openers Little Big Town.

Jessica Simpson cannot sing since "Im gonna love you forever". Since when did she start with that annoying breathy sex kitteny voice that only flew when Marilyn sang "Happy B-day to JFK. Jessica your obnoxious and until you can put out some real talent give Tony the spotlight for a while. Your a VERY pretty girl but theres something called over-kill and over-exposure and you have definately reached that point girl...and you should have stayed with Nick!! You big dummy!!!!

Um...that is not Jessica Simpson. Did you actually read the article before ranting nonsense?

Yea---duh. That's not Jessica...and the article doesn't even mention Jessica....Hello????

There are no such things as chart-toppers and superstars. It's all about who is chosen to receive promotion and backing. That's what determines their future. There are too many played on the radio and I say to myself, "how in the heck have they gotten there?" CU is good but not any different than any other undiscovered or promoted talent.

I welcome Carrie Underwood - she's a wonderful role model for young girls, with morals, integrity, etc.. especially compared to Britney Spears (and her sister). She has talent, she's beautiful, and has turned a lot of people I know on to Country music.
