Short Orders (Sabor)

Brazilian Lunch

By Jeff Beutner

Sabor, Milwaukee’s only Brazilian restaurant, is becoming a Downtown favorite at lunchtime. The cheapest option is the salad bar, which has just dropped in price to a mere $9.95. Price reductions usually suggest cuts in quality, but this salad bar still reigns supreme: It includes soup and sides such as black beans and mashed potatoes. Plus, the assorted cheeses, fresh fruit and grilled vegetables are as good as ever. Try the artichoke salad with hearts of palm, capers, shiitake mushroom caps with herbed cheese and caramelized onions, or the sun-dried tomatoes wrapped around fresh mozzarella.

The full all-you-can-eat feast remains at $28.50, and a new “executive lunch,” comprised of small servings of meat, has been added as well. Service is excellent, attentive and never hurried.

Sorry but this was one of the worst lunches I have eaten in a long time. First of all there was no butter on the table. I know I should have asked for some but I thought since all the other foods flooded our table without asking the butter would evently arrive. I liked the concept of putting the round mediallions on the table when we wanted more meat. But we were bombarded with waiters with screwers of meat everytime they walked by our table. The soup was on the cool side and all 3 of the meats we tried were tastless and full of grissel. Would not go back, would not recommend-----back to maders where I know everything will be perfect

Maders, now that is really stepping out. Talk about boring!

mader's is simply awful...a pretentious attempt to be authentic...obviously, this person has not developed their tastebuds...your comments about sabor are immaterial. i shall go myself to taste test.

I've been to Sabor's and it was one of the best lunch time dining experiences that I've had. I thought it was a bit pricey, but the atmosphere was beautiful, the waite staff was awesome and the service was out of this world. We wanted for nothing. I would and I have recommended it to others. I can now recommend it without hesitation because of the new lunch options and pricing.

If you wanted butter, then why didn't you ask for it?

In Brazil they don't put butter on their cheese rolls (pao de queijo) and at churraceria restaurants the whole point is to be constantly bringing meat to the table-- if they do not do that, a Brazilian will be offended they are cheaping out on the meat.  This comment doesn't deter me.

And do you still drive that Edsel to Maders?

I find the comment about not having butter on the table to be very typical for patrons who are not regular patrons of fine cuisine. If you wanted butter why not ask for it?  I am  not from  Milwaukee however I have had lunch there at Sabor's and I found it to be excellent.  The quality of the food and the meat is extraordinary.  If you were not wanting to be "bombarded" with meat may I suggest that you go to a fast food place for lunch in the future?  Probably some place like McDonald's or Burger King would suit your taste, less meat and fare below the standards of Sabor's.
