June 1-Sept. 9
“Posters of Paris: Toulouse-Lautrec and His Contemporaries”
700 N. Art Museum Drive

“Posters of Paris” offers a taste of the colorful street life of 1880s Paris as seen through the eyes of Jules Chéret, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Alphonse Mucha, Jacques Villon and other leading artists of the period. Images of café and theater life unfolding in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower provided new art for a rising middle-class Parisian society. First used to market commodities and theater performances, posters quickly became prized items among art collectors. Curated by Mary Weaver Chapin, a specialist on Toulouse-Lautrec and MAM's associate curator of prints and drawings, the exhibition travels to Dallas after its Milwaukee premiere.
