Mozart's Sonata for Piano, Four Hands, K. 497 (1786)—to be performed here as an arrangement for piano trio—is a four-movement work in the form of a church sonata. Its opening adagio gives way to more self-consciously bright and brilliant elegance through the finale. Schumann's Piano Trio No. 1 in D Minor, Op. 63 (1847) is generally regarded as the strongest of the three such works he composed. Arno Babajanian's Piano Trio in F-Sharp Minor (1952) colorfully displays the composer's considerable felicity as well as his Armenian roots.
