Low @ The Turner Hall Ballroom

Few bands blur the line between thrilling and tedious like the Duluth slowcore trio Low. Languid and harrowing, their most affecting songs don’t just hit the spot once then stop; they keep twisting the knife deeper and deeper until the listener’s eyes have clouded over. On the other hand, though, the songs that miss their mark stretch on every bit as long as the winning ones, oblivious to how dull they are. It’s really a high-stakes, all-or-nothing sound, and to Low’s credit they hit more often than they miss. My skin was covered in goosebumps for much of the group’s powerful set last night, albeit in part because they were playing the drafty Turner Hall Ballroom. Small, candle-lit tables for the aud
