Paper Boat Boutique

Bay View Gallery Supports Independent Artists

By Shepherd Express Staff

Paper Boat Boutique

The Paper Boat gallery (established in 2005 by artists Faythe Levine and Kim Kisiolek), is nestled in the quaint Bay View neighborhood located just south of downtown Milwaukee.

Popular for it's loyalty to independent artists, crafters, and designers, the gallery itself is an intimate space complete with beautiful tin ceilings and stained glass windows. The soft overhead lighting and wall sconces are complimented perfectly with the natural light which floods through the bay windows that look out onto the street. The increasingly popular Bay View neighborhood surrounding Paper Boat offers many dining options such as Cafe Lulu and Riviera Maya, as well as many independent shops including Harry W. Schwartz booksellers, Fasten Clothing co-op, and Broad Vocabulary . Parking is available on the street, and appears to be plentiful.

The gallery has twelve shows per year featuring both local and international artists, and also shows over 200 makers in their attached retail space. The prices are reasonable, and the collection in the retail area alone offers clothing, prints, books, housewares, and jewelry- all created by local independent artists.

The staff on hand is friendly and knowledgeable, and makes guests feel comfortable even if they are simply there to browse.

Paper Boat is open M-F: 12-7, S/S: 12-5 *closed on Tuesday.
