Lokesh

Utopia

By David Luhrssen

Lokesh is a man with deep roots but no boundaries. The expatriate Indian electronica artist has lived in San Francisco for several years and brings diverse influences together with the sonic essence of his homeland. Sitar and acoustic guitar weave into the crowded sounds of the dance floor; the passionate wail of Indipop vocals rise in a repetitive loop from the synthetic sonics; and tabla drumming provides a nimble, organic counterpoint to the jackhammer beats and swoosh of ‘70s prog rock. The heartbeat pulse of Lokesh’s music is designed for clubbing but the sonic mix is worth a listen.
